SEO & AIO Roadmap

VetPlus · vetplusglobal.com

A phased 6-month strategy to fix technical foundations, unlock non-branded organic growth, and establish VetPlus as the search category leader in veterinary nutraceuticals across international markets.

1
Technical audit & foundations
VetPlus operates across 6 language versions with no hreflang tags and a Search Console property that needs reconfiguring — we'll provide instructions on getting this set up correctly, along with a full set of technical recommendations to resolve these issues before optimisation work begins.
Establish a clean technical baseline so that search engines can properly crawl, index, and understand every page and language version of the site. Without this foundation, content and optimisation work in later months won't reach its full potential.
The benefit: ensures Google serves the right version of the site in each country, so VetPlus isn't losing visibility across its international markets.
Full technical site audit: indexing, crawlability, core web vitals
Multilingual SEO setup and hreflang configuration
Sitemap and robots.txt cleanup
Search Console property setup and baseline reporting
2
On-page optimisation & keyword mapping
Category pages like Joint Support, Gastrointestinal, and Skin & Coat currently have thin title tags, no meta descriptions, and no keyword targeting. We'll update these directly in the CMS and keep a log of all changes made so you have full visibility.
Align every key page with real search demand by mapping keywords to categories and products, optimising on-page elements, and adding FAQ content that captures informational queries.
The benefit: VetPlus pages start appearing when pet owners search for solutions like "dog joint supplements" or "cat digestive health" — driving them to discover VetPlus and ask their vet by name.
Map high-volume keywords to core product categories
Optimise titles, descriptions, and headings on priority pages
URL architecture review and consolidation
Add FAQ content and structured data to key pages
3
Schema markup & content planning
VetPlus products like Synoquin, Calmex, and Samylin already appear in AI Overviews for branded terms — but product pages lack the structured data that would strengthen these citations. We'll provide recommendations on what to implement and where.
Help search engines and AI platforms understand VetPlus products at a deeper level through structured data, while laying the groundwork for content that targets the non-branded terms where the biggest growth opportunity sits.
The benefit: richer search results and stronger AI citation eligibility — meaning VetPlus stands out in search and is more likely to be recommended directly in AI-generated answers.
Implement schema markup across product and category pages
Audit and address page-level cannibalisation
Develop content calendar targeting non-branded search terms
Begin authority link building to industry publications
4
Content & authority building
Currently 90% of VetPlus organic keywords are branded. There is virtually no visibility for high-value category terms like "dog joint supplements" or "cat digestive health" — this phase focuses on closing that gap.
Shift from optimising existing pages to creating new content that positions VetPlus as a trusted authority. The goal is to build non-branded visibility and increase the likelihood of AI search engines citing VetPlus as a credible source.
The benefit: reaches the much larger audience of pet owners searching for solutions who don't yet know VetPlus exists — turning search demand into product awareness and vet enquiries.
Build topical authority content hubs around key product areas
Optimise for AI search citation eligibility
E-E-A-T and trust signal improvements across product pages
Continue strategic link acquisition
5
International & competitor strategy
VetPlus traffic is split across the UK (40%), Spain (21%), Portugal (16%), and Germany (5%). With insights from the English content strategy, this phase looks to extend what's working to the Spanish, German, and Portuguese language versions.
Scale what's working into international markets, identify where competitors are visible and VetPlus isn't, and close those gaps strategically across both traditional and AI search.
The benefit: more vets and pet owners discovering VetPlus across Spain, Portugal, Germany, and beyond — expanding the commercial footprint without expanding the ad budget.
Extend top-performing content to international language versions
Close strategic competitor visibility gaps
Cross-platform AI visibility tracking and benchmarking
Expand content hubs to additional product categories
6
Performance review & refinement
With five months of technical, on-page, and content work behind us, this phase is about measuring what's moved the needle, understanding the full picture across markets, and planning the next phase of growth.
Review everything against the Month 1 baseline to understand what's driven the most impact. Double down on what's working, refine what isn't, and set the strategy for continued category leadership.
The benefit: a clear picture of what's driving results so future investment goes where it has the most commercial impact.
Full performance review against Month 1 baseline
Refine and scale strategies based on what's working
Plan next phase of content and category leadership
Establish ongoing measurement framework
This is an initial roadmap outlining our recommended approach to driving organic traffic growth for VetPlus. As business aims evolve and the campaign progresses, priorities may shift and the strategy will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
